Cash Scarcity: Commercial banks’ staff selling naira to PoS operators – Okai alleges

Amid the scarcity of cash in Nigeria, a Kogi State-born political activist and immediate past House of Representative candidate for Dekina/Bassa federal constituency, Usman Okai Austin, on Tuesday accused some Senior staff of commercial banks of selling money to Point of Sales, PoS, operators.

Okai said it is now obvious that the PoS terminal are active while the commercial banks are cash drained.

In a statement he signed, Okai said: “The story that the CBN is not giving them enough cash or is not meeting up with their demand for cash is a mere story.

“Some commercial Banks are selling money directly to some important personalities, whom they are charging N250,000 on N2,000.00, it’s a venture for them and they are making money from it.”

Okai further added that the blame game on the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, is mere deception

He added: “I am not speaking for CBN neither do I blame them but we should own up and tell our selves the truth.

“If commercials banks want us to get money from ATM they will load it, they should stop using PoS as their new business in town, the citizens are suffering untold hardship and this is common among small small business women and men that go to market.

“Meanwhile citizens have continued to suffer due to this unholy practice which nighter the CBN, Commercial Banks and POS operators are owning up to.”
