Rivers Govt confirms receipt of presidential flood palliatives

The Rivers State Government has confirmed the receipt of the presidential palliatives aimed at supporting local governments and communities impacted by flooding.

The State Flood Prevention and Management Committee, which oversees the distribution, stated that the relief materials would be shared across all 23 Local Government Areas, including to non-indigenes residing in the state.

Chairperson of the committee and Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Nma-Odu, explained that the decision to distribute the presidential palliatives was informed by the fact that flood-affected communities had previously received support from the state government.

Addressing journalists at the warehouse on Tuesday, Nma-Odu noted that some stakeholders had already taken their share of the palliatives.

She expressed optimism that the relief materials would serve as additional support to residents, particularly as a Christmas palliative for communities and non-indigenes across the state.

Media Talk Africa reports that the relief materials received include 2,700 bags of rice, 140 cartons of tomatoes, 170 treated mosquito nets, and other essential items.
