Kano govt approves health contributory scheme to inmates

The Kano State government has approved the enrolment of inmates in custodial facilities into the State’s Health Contributory Scheme, ensuring they now enjoy health insurance coverage.

The scheme will provide inmates with access to basic and comprehensive healthcare services while in custody.

Rahila Aliyu Muktar, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, KACHMA, made this disclosure during a visit to the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, in his office, according to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa.

She assured the Controller of the state government’s readiness to support and assist all inmates medically while they are in custody.

The Controller of Corrections appreciated the state government for its support and assistance, adding that this gesture would help motivate inmates to become productive and law-abiding citizens after their release.

He noted that the health and medical welfare of inmates are essential for efficient custodial management and for the effective reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates.
