Tax Bill: We cannot support reforms that encourages societal divisions – Northern group

The proposed tax reform bills that have thrown up a storm of debate across the country received a call for an overhaul from the Coalition of Northern Groups CNG.

The call was made during a town hall meeting at Gombe State University, which included civil society organizations and key stakeholders.

National Coordinator CNG, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, picked up the gauntlet to lampast such increases and appealed to other alternative areas that wouldn’t compound Nigerians with added burden under current distress in the nation.

He appealed to the leaders in parliament, where applicable to liaise accordingly with federating units as civil societies as well as with academia, respectively before passage.

Comrade Muhammed Umar Deba, Gombe State Coordinator for the CNG, reiterated the need for a just and transparent revenue-sharing formula, informed policy decisions by data, and an all-inclusive consultative process.

“The CNG stands for a tax system that promotes unity and economic growth,” said Deba.

“We cannot support reforms that risk deepening societal divisions or marginalizing any segment of the population.”
