EPL: Aubameyang names player Arsenal need to sign to win title

Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has advised Arsenal on the player they must get if they are to end their wait for a Premier League title this season.

The Gunners are still in contention to win four trophies despite a difficult first half of the season.

Mikel Arteta’s men can take a step closer to their first silverware this campaign on Tuesday evening, when they host Newcastle in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

While progress has clearly been made under Arteta, who recently celebrated five years in charge, silverware has continued to be elusive.

Aubameyang scored the crucial goals that helped Arsenal win the only major trophy of Arteta’s reign, the 2020 FA Cup.

The 35-year-old believes his former club is in need of a proven goalscorer if they are to go one better than last year.

In an interview with The Athletic, Aubameyang said the team is “missing something” as they chase the trophies they “deserve” — namely a “goalscoring machine.”

Arsenal have been linked with Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, but the Magpies value the Swede at £150m and have ruled out selling their prize asset in January.
