We are working to ensure strike-free year this 2025 – Nigerian govt assures

The Federal government said it is working out modalities to ensure no industrial action is embarked on by the organized labour in the country, in 2025.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha stated this in Umuahia on Thursday, during a New Year interactive meeting she held with the leaders of Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Christian Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Union of Journalists and other affiliate labour unions.

She announced that the minimum wage would henceforth be reviewed every three years for the welfare of the Nigerian workers, noting that previous strike actions resulted in a drop in productivity and caused distractions to the government.

The Minister who reiterated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is doing everything to end hunger and unemployment, said that feedback from her meeting with the organized labour would enable her ministry in its programs for the people.

She further announced that President Bola Tinubu would soon launch LEEP program for youths which would be used to turn Nigeria to production hub, adding that unemployment and hunger would be effectively tackled through the program.

Onyejeocha also said the Federal government is out to end unfavourable working conditions in working places while urging traditional rulers and Journalist in Abia State to promote peace and development of the nation.

Responding to the Minister’s speech Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria in Abia State, Ndudim Ikelua appealed to the Federal government to build dams in Abia and provide modern farming implement to his members to encourage commercial farming.
