Nigerian troops neutralize 109 terrorists, rescue 43 hostages in one week

In the last one week, Armed Forces of Nigeria have neutralized 109 terrorists, arrested 81 suspects, and rescued 43 hostages across the various operational theatres in the country.

This was made known on Friday in Abuja by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba.

The troops, according to Maj.-Gen. Buba, equally apprehended six persons involved in oil theft and reclaimed property valued at ₦618.7 million.

β€œThe operations led to the recovery of 21 weapons and 124 rounds of ammunition including nine AK-47 rifles, five fabricated rifles, four dane guns and several locally-made pistols.,” he said.

Troops operating in the Niger Delta had appreciable feats when they destroyed 10 crude oil cooking ovens, 10 dugout pits, 12 boats, four storage tanks, and 10 illegal refining sites.

They also seized three pumping machines, 12 speedboats, 20 drums, two motorcycles, a mobile phone, and four vehicles.

Recovered items include 631,709 litres of stolen crude oil, 3,140 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 2,250 litres of PMS.

Maj.-Gen. Buba said this is to assure the public that the ongoing operations are achieving tangible results, adding that the efficiency and effectiveness of the Armed Forces will continue to improve.
