Obasanjo to host memorial service for former US President, Jimmy Carter

Former Nigerian President and close ally of the late former President of the United States of America, James Earl (Jimmy) Carter, Olusegun Obasanjo will host a memorial service for the late President in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Sunday.

Carter died on December 29, 2024, at age 100, in Plains, Georgia, USA.

He was the longest-living U.S. president and the first to reach 100 years of age.

The Special Assistant on Media to Obasanjo, Kehinde Akinyemi in a statement on Saturday, disclosed that the former Nigerian leader and foremost Africanist would host the memorial service to honour his friend, who was the 39th US President.

In his statement, Akinyemi hinted that the service will be held at the Chapel of Christ, The Glorious King of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, by 9.00am.

The President of the Baptist Convention, Rev Israel Akanji will present a special sermon on the occasion, while Obasanjo is to deliver a special tribute on “Jimmy Carter: The Departure of a Titan”.
