Lakurawa kill three Airtel staff, one other in Kebbi

Suspected terrorists of the Lakurawa group have killed four people, including three employees of a leading telecommunications firm, Airtel in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The attack occurred on 10 January 2025, around 8:47 pm at a construction site in Gumki, as the three victims were reportedly working on the installation of a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service when the attackers struck. The fourth victim, whose identity remains unknown, was also killed during the attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, stating, “Four people lost their lives in the attack, including three staff of Airtel and one local resident.”

Following the attack, the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, and the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi State Command, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, visited the scene. The victims’ bodies were evacuated to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.

CP Sani has since deployed additional tactical teams to the area with instructions to track and neutralize the perpetrators.

He also held discussions with community members, urging them to support security agencies with intelligence to enhance their operations.

This attack comes less than a week after the same group killed two police officers in the state, heightening concerns over the increasing spate of violence in the region.
