Premier League releases statement on why David Brooks escaped red against Chelsea

The Premier League released a statement on Tuesday night, insisting that David Brooks escaped a red card for dragging Chelsea defender, Marc Cucurella to the ground, because it was not violent conduct.

Referee Rob Jones took a look at the pitchside monitor after being informed of a potential violent conduct offence, where Brooks appeared to use his arm to bring Cucurella down as Chelsea broke away for a counter-attack.

It seemed Brooks was about to see red, but following several views of the incident, Jones instead decided to show a yellow card, to the frustration of Chelsea players and supporters at Stamford Bridge.

โ€œVAR recommended an on-field review for a possible red card to Brooks for violent conduct.

โ€œUpon review, the referee deemed that the challenge on Cucurella was a reckless action and not violent conduct โ€“ and issued a yellow card to Brooks,โ€ a statement read.

Cole Palmer had given Chelsea the lead, before Bournemouth scored twice through Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo.

But Reece James scored a late free-kick to help the Blues get a point at home, as their title hopes began to fade.
