You can’t stop advising govt – Hikima tells Emir Sanusi

Renowned human rights lawyer, Barrister Abba Hikima, has urged the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, to continue advising the federal government on economic issues, regardless of their strained relationship. Hikima made this call on his verified Facebook page, underscoring the Emir’s moral responsibility to provide guidance for the nation’s progress.

“You shouldn’t stop advising the federal government just because you’re no longer friends,” Hikima said.

He noted that Emir Sanusi has consistently argued that Nigeria’s economic challenges are both “predictable” and “avoidable” but lamented the lack of credible experts within the government to propose effective solutions.

Hikima criticized the Emir’s silence, suggesting it stemmed from his personal fallout with the government.

“Why should Emir Sanusi, who understands the causes of Nigeria’s economic woes and the solutions, abandon his moral duty simply because of a broken relationship with the government?” he questioned.

The lawyer’s comments come amid broader conversations about the role of traditional leaders in addressing national issues.

Hikima encouraged the Emir to prioritize the nation’s welfare over personal grievances and continue offering critical insights to help alleviate Nigeria’s economic struggles.
