Ebonyi Correspondents’ Chapel elects Inya, Sun Man as Chairman

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ebonyi State chapter, has elected Comrade Uchenna Inya as its new Chairman.

Inya, the state correspondent for The Sun Newspaper, polled a total of 27 votes to defeat his opponent, Moses Nwite of the Voice of NigeriaL, VON, who scored 5 votes.

The chapel also elected Christian Ogbonna of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, as its Secretary.

The keenly contested election was conducted at the chapel office in Spera-in-Deo Plaza, Abakaliki, by a three-man credential screening committee headed by Comrade Amechi Odo of Radio Nigeria, Abakaliki.

Thirty-two out of the 34 members of the chapel participated in the election, which was monitored by the state council of the NUJ.

Odo commended the members of the chapel for conducting themselves in an orderly manner during the election.

He called for continued unity in the chapel and applauded the members for turning out en masse to vote for the candidates of their choice.

The state Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Samson Nwafor, hailed the peaceful conduct of the election.

He called on the winners, especially the new chapel Chairman, to see their victory as a call for greater service. He advised Inya to make amendments in areas where he did not perform well as Acting Chairman, in order to move the chapel forward.

Nwafor, who was also a former Chairman of the chapel, urged Nwite to support Inya’s leadership and to view the election results as the collective wish of the chapel’s members.

In his acceptance speech, Inya thanked the members for the confidence reposed in him through their overwhelming votes and encouraged them to continue offering their support.

He expressed gratitude to media stakeholders in the state, including the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor; the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Francis Nwifuru, Dr. Monday Uzor; and the Director General of the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC), Comrade Tony Nwizi, for fostering internal democracy, which contributed to the success of the election.
