EPL: Arteta explains why Arsenal drew 2-2 with Aston Villa

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has criticised his team for giving away two cheap goals in their 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Gunners threw away a two-goal lead at the Emirates to drop crucial points in the Premier League title race.

Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz scored either side of the break to put Arteta’s men in a commanding position.

But Villa fought back to draw, thanks to goals from Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins.

Arteta, speaking after the game, said: “It was the best game we played against Villa since I’ve been here. They’re a good side.

“In attack and defending, the level we’re playing is so high. Something was missing. The line is so thin and we have to find it.

“Today we cannot concede the two goals we did after everything we did. That line is so thin. Credit to them as well.”

On the disallowed goal, he added: “The decision is made. It’s difficult because we have so much emotion, the celebration and it’s taken away from you. Not easy.”
