EPL: Mathematically they’re in it – Alan Smith on team to challenge for title

Former Arsenal star Alan Smith has said that Nottingham Forest are mathematically in the Premier League title race this season.

Smith spoke following Nottingham’s 3-2 victory over Southampton at the weekend.

The result means Nottingham Forest are in third position with 44 points after 22 matches.

However, Smith believes Forest could produce a ‘miracle’ and follow in the footsteps of Leicester City, who won the Premier League title in 2016.

“It’s incredible,” Smith told Sky Sports about Nottingham Forest’s season so far. “Chris Wood keeps on scoring.

“They are absolutely full of it. They are 1737456665 in the title race, mathematically.

“I think realistically, they are not, but we probably said that about Leicester. Who knows? It could be another miracle.”

Nottingham Forest’s next match is against Bournemouth on Saturday.
