Nigerian Govt approves establishment of Bola Tinubu Polytechnic in Abuja

The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a federal polytechnic in Abuja to be named after President Bola Tinubu.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, confirmed this in a letter addressed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on January 9.

Alausa said establishing the institution is part of the ministry’s plan to ensure that every state has a federal polytechnic.

According to the minister, the project aligns with the government’s policy to promote technological and vocational training.

The letter asked the FCT minister to suggest suitable locations in Gwarinpa for both the polytechnic’s temporary and permanent sites.

Alausa said a technical team from the Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, is expected to inspect.

He added that the government is open to taking over existing tertiary institutions in the FCT if they meet the requirements for the new polytechnic.

Earlier, NBTE inaugurated a foundation to revitalise polytechnic education in Nigeria.

The Executive Secretary of NBTE, Idris Bugaje, said there was a need to address some pressing challenges facing polytechnics.

Bugaje emphasised that plans were in motion to strengthen institutional capacity, promote industry collaboration, and facilitate international partnerships.

“Our polytechnic system must be the engine that drives Nigeria’s economic development and industrial growth,” the NBTE Executive Secretary said.
