Scotland: Balogun slams Rangers fans over Dessers disrespect

Leon Balogun has slammed Rangers fans for their abuse of his compatriot, Cyriel Dessers, Media Talk Africa reports.

Dessers joined the Light Blues from Italian club, Cremonese two years ago.

The 30-year-old has endured a rocky relationship with majority of Rangers’ fans despite his impressive goal haul.

The fans are always quick to get on the forward’s back when things aren’t going well or big chances are spurned.

Balogun has however backed Dessers and labelled the fans action disrespectful.

“It is, but it shouldn’t be. Not to that extent. We’ve had it here in the past when a player comes on and gets booed or a player comes off and gets clapped off but in a sarcastic type of way,” Balogun said on Counter Attack Podcast.

“I don’t condone that at all because it’s the same player that you would actually want to score or defend better. You can criticise them heavily, but watch the language. It is extremely disrespectful.”

Dessers has been linked with a move away from the club after losing his starting spot to Hamza Igamane.

Serie A clubs, Cagliari and Empoli reportedly have keen interest in the striker.
