Israel in talks over civilian hostage release

Israeli officials are engaged in discussions with mediators to secure the release of civilian hostage, Arbel Yehud in the coming days, according to a report by Kan public broadcaster.

Hamas has faced criticism from Israel for violating the terms of the ceasefire agreement by releasing four female soldiers before addressing the release of civilian hostages.

Yehud, held by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, PIJ, terror group, remains in captivity despite initial expectations of her release.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad has falsely claimed that Yehud, who was abducted alongside her partner Ariel Cunio from their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz during the October 7, 2023, attack, is a soldier.

Israel has linked the return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza to Yehud’s release, with officials indicating that movement back to the area may resume if she is freed in the coming days.
