Yobe Govt assures Army of more support to end insurgency

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has assured the army and other security agencies of continued support in the fight against insurgency in the state.

He gave the assurance on Sunday in Damaturu when the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Damaturu.

Governor Buni, in a statement by his media aide, Mamman Mohammed, commended the military for its commitment to the security now being enjoyed across the state, noting that all 17 local government areas are accessible, with people moving freely and pursuing legitimate businesses.

“The security attained across the state affords the government the opportunity to execute its policies and programmes to improve the lives of our people unhindered,” Buni said.

He, however, called for increased patrols along the borders to prevent possible infiltration by insurgents targeting soft and isolated targets.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi O. Oluyede, assured the governor of the army’s commitment to ending insurgency and banditry in Nigeria.

“It is my personal ambition to see the end of this menace as quickly as possible, and I call for support from our political leaders and Nigerians to achieve this goal,” said Lt Gen Oluyede.

He pledged to deploy his knowledge and personal experience, “when I served here in Yobe State, to see the end of insurgency.”

Lt Gen Oluyede commended Yobe State for its support to the army and called for more cooperation to facilitate the end of the insurgency.
