Sexual harassment: NANS supports governing council’s move to probe FUOYE Vice Chancellor

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, on Sunday, declared its support for the move by the governing council of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, to probe the allegations of sexual harassment against the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Abayomi Fasina

NANS made this declaration via a statement signed by its Senate President, Babatunde Akinteye.

The statement was made available to Media Talk Africa on Sunday.

Prof Fasina has been accused of sexual harassment by a staff member of the institution, Folasade Adebayo, a deputy director in the Directorate of Works and Services.

Media Talk Africa learnt that the governing council of the institution, on Friday, announced that it had set up a nine-member panel to investigate accusations of sexual harassment and bribery against the Vice Chancellor.

Akinteye, while reacting, described the move by the governing council to investigate the matter as a welcome development.

According to him: “We commend the Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, for its timely and commendable decision to set up a committee to investigate the recent developments within the university.

“Furthermore, we acknowledge the numerous appeals from students on the campus, urging us to provide a balanced perspective on this matter. It is, therefore, imperative that this investigation provides him with a fair hearing to ensure that justice is served.

“We implore the investigative committee to approach this matter with professionalism and objectivity to unravel the facts behind the allegations. If, at the conclusion of the investigation, it is revealed that this case is a witch hunt or an attempt to tarnish the reputation of any individual, we urge the Governing Council to act decisively in ensuring that such malicious acts are addressed and justice is delivered accordingly.”
