EPL: UEFA, FIFA ex-ref Hackett slams Oliver over Lewis-Skelly’s red card

Former FIFA and UEFA referee Keith Hackett has slammed Michael Oliver over Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday.

Oliver, the centre referee for the Premier League clash, showed Myles Lewis-Skelly a straight red card in the 43rd minute.

The youngster was adjudged to have caught Matt Doherty above the ankle at the edge of the Wolves box.

Oliver’s decision was later upheld by VAR and Hackett was surprised by the decision, slamming the referee.

“It’s Arsenal and once again they are at the end of a very poor refereeing decision,” he wrote on X.

“Michael Oliver- that is not a red card and if I was you I would tell Webb that you do not want to work with your VAR Darren England. Between you, it was a disaster to send off that Arsenal player.”

The narrow win over Wolves kept the Gunners in second place in the league table. They are six points behind league leaders, Liverpool.
