Transfer: Neymar Jr’s contract terminated

Al-Hilal have announced the termination of Neymar Jr’s contact.

This brings to an end the Brazilian’s injury-plagued 18-month stay in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement posted on social media, the club said they had “agreed to terminate the player’s contract by mutual consent”.

It added that “the club expresses its thanks and appreciation to Neymar for what he has provided throughout his career with Al-Hilal, and wish the player success in his career.”

The 32-year-old played just seven times since arriving at the club from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2023.

Just two months after signing for Al Hilal, Neymar ruptured a cruciate ligament in his left knee while playing for Brazil in a World Cup qualifier in October 2023.

The injury kept him on the sidelines for a year.

He returned for Al Hilal with two brief appearances in October and November but injured a hamstring and has not played since.

Neymar was on salary believed to be around $104 million a year.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain sueprstar is now widely expected to rejoin boyhood club, Santos.
