Chelsea have decided against signing a new goalkeeper to replace Robert Sanchez at Stamford Bridge.
This decision comes after the 27-year-old faced significant criticism from various football pundits this season.
The Spain international has been identified as a weak link in Chelsea’s starting XI.
A video highlighting Sanchez’s mistakes went viral this week, with Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reportedly considering dropping him as his No.1 goalkeeper.
It was also recently reported that the Premier League west London club were considering a move for Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, who currently plays for Parma in Serie A.
However, according to The Athletic, Chelsea have now decided they do not need to recruit a new goalkeeper to replace Sanchez during the ongoing January transfer window.
The Blues believe they have already added two young goalkeepers who can provide long-term competition for Sanchez. Chelsea feel their current back-up keepers, Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders, can challenge Sanchez for the No.1 spot.
Sanchez’s run in Chelsea’s XI could be coming to an end due to his poor performances in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher recently stated that Sanchez should be playing for a team in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
