The Football Association, FA, has overturned the three-match ban that Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly was set to serve following a controversial sending-off against Wolves.
The FA confirmed this decision in a statement on Monday after an appeal from the Gunners.
The statement read: “An independent Regulatory Commission has upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Myles Lewis-Skelly and removed his three-match suspension.
“The Arsenal player was sent off for serious foul play during their Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, 25 January 2025.”
Referee Michael Oliver had shown Lewis-Skelly a straight red card during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday.
Oliver judged that the 18-year-old had caught Matt Doherty above the ankle as he broke away following a corner kick. His decision was subsequently upheld by VAR.
The incident sparked mixed reactions among pundits and fans, with Oliver becoming the target of abuse on social media.
However, the FA’s ruling means Lewis-Skelly will now be available for Mikel Arteta when Arsenal welcome champions Manchester City to the Premier League on Sunday.
