Champions League: Fire outbreak at Etihad Stadium ahead of Man City vs Club Brugge

There was a fire outside the Etihad Stadium, ahead of the Champions League clash between Manchester City and Club Brugge on Wednesday night.

The fire started near the main entrance, as City’s new women’s players were being presented on a stage.

The three new signings made by Pep Guardiola were also due to be presented.

However, the incident led to the presentation being halted, and the area was evacuated.

The fire has now been extinguished.

“Just before 6pm this evening (Wednesday 29 January), two fire engines from Blackley and Philips Park fire stations were called to reports of a building fire involving an outbuilding on the car park of the football ground on Rowsley Street, Manchester,” a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, GMFRS, said.

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used two hose reels to extinguish the fire. They are currently dampening down any hotspots and making the area safe.

“Firefighters have been in attendance for around thirty minutes and are still at the scene.”
