Police react to petrol tanker explosion in Jigawa, say no life lost

Jigawa State Police command has stated that no life was lost and no casualties recorded in Friday night petrol tanker explosion in Dutse.

Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, stated this in a statement issued to Media Talk Africa.

Media Talk Africa reported that the incident happened on 30th January, 2025, at about 1900hrs at Shakkato Filling Station, along Kiyawa Road by Takur Adua Area, Dutse metropolis.

Shiisu said upon receipt of the report, the team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer, Dutse, immediately raced to the scene.

Also Dutse International Airport, State and Federal Fire Services personnel rushed to the scene.

He said the fire was successfully quenched by the combined efforts of the fire fighters and good samaritans, while the police personnel alongside other security agencies cordoned and blocked the entire area to prevent miscreants taking advantage of the incident to steel.

However, a preliminary investigation revealed that while trying to discharge petroleum products from the tanker into an underground tank, the fire ignited and became wild beyond the control of filling station operators.
