Comic actor Bishop Umoh, also known as Okon Lagos, has warned that politicians’ efforts to retain old naira notes do not serve Nigerians’ interests. He shared this view on his Instagram account on Friday morning, emphasizing that the naira redesign policy is not meant to punish ordinary citizens but to ensure a free and fair election.

According to Umoh, vote‑buying politicians already possess the exact denominations that have been withdrawn from legal tender—specifically the N1,000 and N500 notes. He wrote, “No desperate vote‑seeking Nigerian politician genuinely cares about you. Their fight to keep all old currency notes as legal tender isn’t for you!” He suggested that making the N200, N100, N50, N20, N10 and N5 notes available would be sufficient to meet the cash needs of the common man.

Umoh urged calm, stating, “Guys, chill, let the elections finish. This fight isn’t aimed at punishing the common man; it’s aimed at delivering fair elections. Abeg make we not too vex. E go soon finish!”
