EPL table: Liverpool go 9pts clear at the top after Bournemouth win

Liverpool have now opened a nine-point gap at the top of the Premier League table, following a 2-0 win at Bournemouth.

In the first game of the day, Nottingham Forest had thrashed Brighton 7-0 at the Forest Ground, to move joint-second with Arsenal.

With both teams just six points off, the Reds knew they had to beat the in-form Cherries to extend their advantage.

And they took the lead in the first half, after Cody Gakpo was tripped inside the box.

Mohamed Salah stepped up to convert the penalty, claiming his 20th league goal of the campaign.

The Egyptian then curled in a nonchalant second in the second half.

Bournemouth gave it their all. They hit the woodwork twice, had a goal ruled out and missed an open goal through Justin Kluivert.

But the story of Liverpool’s season is they seem to find a way to win
