Bundesliga: Boniface thrilled to score on Bayer Leverkusen return

Victor Boniface said he is delighted to return to the pitch again after spending around two months on the sidelines.

Boniface sustained a thigh injury on international duty last November.

The 24-year-old scored in his first game for Bayer Leverkusen since recovering from the injury against TSG Hoffenheim on Sunday.

The Nigeria international opened the scoring for Die Werkself in the 15th minute of the encounter.

Boniface was replaced after the break by Patrick Schick.

He expressed his delight after making a scoring return to the side.

“I feel happy, I feel great. It has been a long time since I’ve been out, I think almost two months, so to be back and playing games is really good for me,” Boniface told the club’s official website.

“It feels good to score, not just as a striker but in general, as a team to score an early goal against a top team like this. It really helps build confidence, and you can see that after the goal, the team gained more confidence to score more.”

Boniface has so far registered seven goals in 11 league appearances for Leverkusen this season.
