Transfer: You shouldn’t have joined Chelsea – Sherwood tells talented midfielder

Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood has blamed Carney Chukwuemeka for joining Chelsea in 2022.

He thinks that the 21-year-old should never have made the move, especially amidst his potential loan move away from the club.

Chukwuemeka is set to leave Stamford Bridge for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season.

The attacking midfielder moved to Stamford Bridge in 2022 from Aston Villa in a reported £20 million deal.

However, the England U21 star has failed to establish himself as a regular at the club.

He was one of several players at the club who were informed by manager Enzo Maresca at the start of the season that they were not part of his plans.

Now, with his departure imminent, Sherwood, who also managed Aston Villa in 2015, believes the young midfielder should have remained at Villa Park.

“He shouldn’t have left Aston Villa in hindsight. Leaving Villa and going to Chelsea has not been a good move for him,” he said to Sky Sports.

“Financially, it probably has, but it’s not about that when you’re his age— it’s about playing games and progressing your career. Borussia Dortmund has been a good place for a lot of British lads who have gone over there and done exceptionally well.

“I think he’s got a lot of talent, I really do. He’s a midfielder I wouldn’t want to play against, but he just needs to play on a regular basis,” Sherwood concluded.
