Carabao Cup: Howe confirms major blow ahead of Newcastle’s second-leg with Arsenal

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that midfielder Joelinton is a major ‘doubt’ for his side’s crucial Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Media Talk Africa reports that Joelinton suffered a potentially costly injury during Newcastle’s Premier League 2-1 defeat to Fulham last weekend.

The Brazilian sustained a knee injury and was pictured wearing a brace over the weekend.

However, Newcastle will host the Gunners at St James’ Park on Wednesday night in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Howe’s men had won 2-0 against Arsenal in the first leg at Emirates Stadium last month.

Speaking in his pre-match interview, Howe said about Joelinton:

“Yes, Joey was, after the game, put in a knee brace just as a precaution; he is out of that knee brace now.

“We will assess how he is for this game. I’d say he is a doubt, but we’ll give him every minute we can to try and make him fit.”

He added: “From my side, we want a competitive team on the pitch. Everyone wants it the same way.”
