US judge stops Trump’s plan to buyout federal workers

A federal judge, George O’Toole Jr. on Thursday blocked President Donald Trump’s plan to push out federal employees by offering them financial incentives.

Media Talk Africa reports that the ruling came hours before the midnight deadline for workers to apply for the deferred resignation program.

The programme has been commonly described as a buyout.

O’Toole in Boston did not express an opinion on the legality of the program.

He, however , scheduled a hearing for Monday at 2 p.m. EST.

The judge also directed administration officials to extend the deadline to apply for the program until after the hearing.

The pause is temporary. “I make no assessment at this time of the merit of the defendants,” O’Toole said during the Thursday afternoon hearing.

Media Talk Africa reports that alot of labor unions have sued over Trump’s plans.

Trump’s plans is said to be orchestrated by Elon Musk, a top adviser.

Trump is trying to downsize and reshape the federal workforce.
