Grace Ihonvbere 60th birthday invitational open: Hassan crowned overall best net champion

Abuja, Feb. 9, 2025 (NAN) The 60th birthday invitational open of Grace Ihonvbere ended in Abuja on Sunday with Real Admiral Mustapha Hassan emerging as the overall best nett champion of the event.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that
the 18-hole event, which was part of activities lined up to celebrate the 60th birthday anniversary of the past Lady Captain of the club.

The tournament which began on Friday with the tee-off ceremony at the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja saw the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogora, the Chairman, National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, alongside other dignitaries as special guests at the event.

No fewer than 200 golfers competed for honours in the different categories with alot of mouth-watering prizes won by the various winners.

At the end of hostilities, Hassan clinched the tournament’s top prize and was handed a brand new golf cart as reward for his hardwork.

Hassan played a total gross score of 78,
playing off handicap 11 and returned a net
score of 67 to emerge as the overall best nett champion of the event.

The best gross men prize went to P. Uzezi who played off handicap 10 and returned 80 gross to defeat his closest challenger, Joel Molel, on countback.

An elated Hassan told newsmen that he was surprised to have emerged as the overall winner, adding that winning the event’s top prize was such a sweet feeling.

“I didn’t really prepare for this tournament, but you know golf can be very unpredictable and today was my day.

“I give glory to God for this and will like to say that this tournament is one of the best I have ever participated in.

“It was well organised and filled with glitz and glamour as it resonated with the personality of celebrant ‘Lady G’.

“I wish her a happy birthday and many more fruitful years ahead,” he said.

Agbo won the best gross ladies prize after she played off handicap 6 and returned 77 gross, while Farida Wada finished as runner-up in the category after she played off handicap 14 and returned 92 gross.

In the men’s division 1 category, A. Tarfa claimed the top prize after he played off handicap 11, and returned 80 gross and 69 nett.

In the ladies division 1 category, Susan Cole-Kotos playing off handicap 17, posted a gross score of 88 and returned a net score of 71 to emerge winner of the category.

The Guest men’s top prize went to O. Olukoya, after he played off 4 and returned 79 gross and 75 nett.

The LGAN President, Evelyn Oyome took home the top prize in the Guest Ladies category after she played off handicap 11 and returned 87 gross and 76 nett, while O. Idahosa emerged as the 60th position winner.(NAN)
