Championship: Dennis wants to emulate Aiyegbeni at Blackburn Rovers

Emmanuel Dennis has vowed to emulate Yakubu Aiyegbeni at Blackburn Rovers, Media Talk Africa reports.

Aiyegbeni, a former Nigeria international, was on the books of Rovers during the 2011/22 season.

The 42-year-old scored 17 goals in 32 league appearances for the Blue and Whites during that campaign.

Dickson Etuhu and Hope Akpan are the other Nigerians, who have played for the club in the past.

Dennis joined Blackburn on loan from Nottingham Forest on deadline day.

The forward made his debut for John Eustace’s side in Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“Yakubu played here and growing up, I watched him play. It is a club I am very familiar with from growing up in Nigeria. I was really pleased they wanted me, I wanted to come,” Dennis told Rovers TV.

“He scored a lot of goals, so many! Yakubu is really big in Nigeria and African football.

“His contribution, playing in the Premier League, what a guy! He inspired me in some ways because I watched games and he was a really good player.”
