CBN announces fresh date for first MPC meeting in 2025

The Central Bank of Nigeria has postponed its 299th Monetary Policy Committee meeting earlier slated for February 17 and 18, 2025.

Apex Bank, in a statement on Monday, said the meeting will now be held on February 19 and 20, 2025.

The statement read, “The Central Bank of Nigeria has announced that the 299th meeting of its Monetary Policy Committee earlier scheduled for February 17 and 18, 2025, will now be held on Wednesday, February 19, and Thursday, February 20, 2025.”

The development ends speculations over the meeting dates, which arose due to delays by the National Bureau of Statistics in releasing the rebased Consumer Price Index.

Despite Nigeria’s monetary measures, the country’s inflation rate stood at 34.80 percent in December 2024. Media Talk Africa recalls that in the past eleven months, Nigeria’s inflation has continued to rise with a commensurate interest rate hike at 27.50 percent.
