AFCON 2025: Le Roy picks Super Eagles among title favourites

Veteran coach, Claude Le Roy has named the Super Eagles of Nigeria among the title contenders for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles are one of the most successful teams in the history of the AFCON, having won the competition three times in the past.

The West Africans came close to winning a fourth title last year in Cote d’Ivoire, losing 2-1 to the hosts in the final.

Le Roy, who guided the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to AFCON success in 1988 is rooting for the Super Eagles to challenge for the title again.

“Senegal, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Algeria. Egypt is always a formidable opponent in this competition,” he told LeSitelnfo

“We must also be careful with South Africa, which continues to progress thanks to a very good coach. Cameroon is also one of the competitors who are always difficult to beat.”

The Super Eagles will face Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania in the group stage in Morocco.

Eric Chelle’s men will confront Taifa Stars of Tanzania in their opening fixture in Fez on Tuesday, December 23.
