Seven injured as firefighters battle inferno after explosion near US airport

More than seven people were injured after a vehicle explosion ignited a large inferno on Tuesday near El Paso International Airport in Texas, USA.

Fox News reports that El Paso Fire Department confirmed crews were responding to a condition 4 fire at the Sun Metro Transit Operations Center.

According to El Paso Strategic communications Director, Laura Cruz Acosta, more than 100 firefighters and 40 fire units responded.

Acosta stated that El Paso International Airport operations were unaffected.

According to the fire department, no fatalities were reported. However, seven patients were assessed, and four were taken to area hospitals.

Acosta released a statement noting details about the fire and its cause are limited.

“Our primary focus is on containing the fire and the safety of our staff,” according to the statement. “We want to extend our sincere gratitude to our first responders for their swift action in addressing the situation.”
