IPAC calls for immediate arrest of Yunusa Ari for contemptuous election remarks

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Yunusa Hudu Ari, the dismissed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa State, following his recent comments on the 2023 governorship election.
In a press briefing held in Yola, Bello Babajo, the Chairman of IPAC in Adamawa State, condemned Ari’s statements as an attempt to undermine Nigeria’s judiciary and democratic processes. Babajo described the former REC’s remarks as “deliberate and misleading,” calling for strong action against anyone seeking to destabilize the nation’s electoral integrity.

Ari, in a widely publicized press briefing on February 10, claimed that Senator Aishatu Binani, not Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, was the rightful winner of the 2023 governorship election, despite the matter having been definitively resolved by the Supreme Court.

IPAC accused Ari of contempt towards INEC and the judiciary, alleging that he sought to mislead the public and create confusion over the election results. Babajo criticized Ari’s actions, pointing out his attempt to manipulate the results and his subsequent evasion of justice.

“Instead of accepting the truth, Hudu Ari boldly displayed fabricated election results and insisted on pushing his misguided narrative,” Babajo said.

The council further urged the Inspector General of Police to apprehend Ari swiftly and ensure he is held accountable for his actions, emphasizing the importance of protecting the sanctity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

IPAC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s electoral process and ensuring that the will of the people is respected in all future elections.
