MTN Nigeria increases voice call tariff

Nigeria’s telecommunications giant, MTN, has increased the call rate on its pulse bundle to N13.8 per minute from N7.8 per minute, Media Talk Africa reports.

Checks by Media Talk Africa on Thursday showed that a voice call of 62 seconds cost N14.62 kobo.

The tariff hike by MTN represents a 43 percent increase.

Earlier on Tuesday, MTN Nigeria increased its data plan tariff.

However, on Thursday, the telco, in a statement, apologised to subscribers for increasing its 15G data plan by 200 percent.

Recall that the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, on January 20, 2025, approved a 50 percent tariff hike for mobile network operators.

In protest against the implementation of the telecom tariff hike, the Nigeria Labour Congress directed its members and Nigerians to boycott MNOs from Thursday, 13th to the end of February, 2025.
