Abuja, Feb. 13, 2025 (Reuters/NAN) The 26th edition of the IBB International Golf and Country Club Ladies Golf Open Tournament is underway in Abuja, and Ugandan golfer Jovia Namara Tugume has expressed her excitement about participating in the prestigious event.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, which runs from February 13 to 16, 2025, the talented Ugandan golfer shared her positive experience of Nigeria, recounting the warmth of the people, the beauty of the surroundings, and the high level of hospitality she has enjoyed.

“It has been a very good experience. I came earlier to experience Nigeria. I am having fun and am happy to be taking part in this IBB Ladies Open,” she told media in Abuja.

“Everything here is beautiful. The hospitality, food, and roads. I am having fun, and I would like to invite you all to come and experience and explore.

“We have Uganda Airlines, which offers direct flights from Entebbe to Lagos. It comes here to Abuja, but when you go to Uganda from Abuja, you go directly.

“The tournament, which has garnered participation from over 450 players from Nigeria and five other African nations—Rwanda, Uganda, Ghana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—is widely recognized as a premier competition for female golfers in Africa.

The event, themed “The Abuja Experience,” has received glowing accolades from key stakeholders, including Lady Captain Julie Donli, for its growing impact on women’s sports.

Reflecting on her aspirations beyond the green, the Ugandan golfer shared her future goals, stating, “I am aspiring to be a member of Parliament. I like to take this opportunity to thank you, and you are all welcome to Uganda. I am here to support and welcome you. Thank you.

”With a clear determination, she continued, “I am here to win the tournament because I recently won the Order of Merit at Entebbe Golf Club. Not only to participate or explore, I am here to represent my country, and I’m sure I am going to take the trophy home.”

As the tournament continues, all eyes will be on this determined competitor, who is ready to make her mark while showcasing the pride of Uganda on the international stage.(Reuters/NAN)
