Tension in Borno as Boko Haram fighters mobilize for battle against ISWAP stronghold

Reports indicate that a major confrontation may be imminent as Boko Haram fighters, also known as Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad (JAS), have been seen mobilizing towards an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) stronghold in Borno State.

According to security analyst, Makama, the insurgents were spotted traveling in water vessels from the Loko Libi and Darak areas along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

The heavily armed fighters are reportedly heading towards Marte Local Government Area, where ISWAP has its headquarters.

This movement suggests a potential clash between the rival factions, as Boko Haram appears to be preparing for battle against ISWAP in the Lake Chad region.

The development comes just two weeks after a failed reconciliation attempt between Boko Haram and its breakaway faction, ISWAP. Following the breakdown of the peace efforts, both groups have resumed hostilities in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.
