NPFL: Ilechukwu pleased with Rangers’ win over Remo Stars

Rangers head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has reacted to his team’s victory over league leaders Remo Stars.

The Flying Antelopes defeated Daniel Ogunmodede’s side 2-1 in a thrilling Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL matchday 24 encounter in Enugu on Sunday.

The defeat was Remo Stars’ first in nine league outings.

Rangers also got their revenge for the 2-1 loss to Remo Stars earlier in the season.

“We are happy with the three points. I knew it was going to be a tough game against the league leaders, the best team in Nigeria at the moment, so beating them and ending their unbeaten run, beating my friend, the assistant coach of the Super Eagles, is a big deal,” Ilechukwu told reporters after the game.

Ilechukwu, who guided Rangers to win the title last season, said they secured the victory with an injury-ravaged squad.

“We know ourselves already, I told them how important the game was. Remo Stars were on 48 points and we were on 35 points before the game. I told the players that winning this game will help us prove to ourselves, not to anyone else, that we can survive despite our injuries,” he added.
