APC can’t defend its failures, so it resorts to attacks — Tambuwal’s camp

The media office of former Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to fulfill its campaign promises instead of targeting critics of its policies.

Speaking on Saturday, Tambuwal stated that no politician with a conscience would join the APC, claiming that those defecting to the ruling party were motivated by “stomach infrastructure.” He argued that the country’s economic crisis made APC membership unappealing.

In response, APC spokesperson Felix Morka dismissed Tambuwal’s remarks, branding him a “notorious and vainglorious party defector.” Morka accused the former governor of hypocrisy, stating that his own history of political defections was driven by self-interest.

On Monday, Tambuwal’s media team released a statement condemning Morka’s remarks as an attempt to stifle opposition and distract Nigerians from the deepening economic and security challenges.

“Rather than addressing pressing issues like economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures, the APC resorts to cheap propaganda and personal attacks—a tactic that reveals its desperation and leadership failure,” the statement read.

Tambuwal’s team accused the APC of using coercion, enticement, and intimidation to weaken opposition voices and push Nigeria toward one-party rule.

“The APC’s portrayal of recent defections as a result of President Tinubu’s so-called economic reforms is both misleading and insulting to Nigerians, who are enduring unprecedented hardship,” the statement continued.

It criticized the administration’s handling of the economy, citing rising inflation, worsening insecurity, and increasing unemployment that has forced businesses to shut down and plunged many into poverty.

The statement also defended Tambuwal’s legacy, emphasizing his role as a founding member of the APC and his “unassailable record of selflessness and patriotism.”
