UCL: Referee to officiate Real Madrid, Man City second leg in Spain confirmed

UEFA have appointed referee, István Kovács to officiate the Champions League playoff second leg with Manchester City on Wednesday.

The playoff will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

Media Talk Africa reports that it will be the fourth time Kovács has taken charge of a game involving Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The Romanian official has taken charge Real Madrid’s 5-2 win against Borussia Dortmund in the 2024/25 Champions League league phase.

He was also in charge of the Los Blancos’ 5-2 win over Liverpool in the 2022/23 Champions League first leg Round of 16 encounter.

Kovác also took charge of Real Madrid’s 4-3 win over Man City in the 2021/22 Champions League first leg semifinals tie.

Media Talk Africa reports that Clément Turpin was the referee that officiated the first leg clash last week Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium.

Real Madrid won Man City 3-2, thanks to Jude Bellingham’s stoppage time goal.

The winner between the two-leg fixtures will progress to the Champions League Round of 16.
