Abia Govt to launch offensive against fake drugs, beverage producers

Abia State government has said that it would launch a crackdown against producers of fake drugs and beverages operating in the state.

Media Talk Africa recalls that the National Foods and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, last week Tuesday sealed duplexes used for repackaging of expired drugs in Osisioma LGA of Abia.

Briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu warned the producers and marketers of fake products operating in the state to desist from their unwholesome acts.

He lamented that the act is denting the image of the state.

The commissioner disclosed that the state government is going to embark on serious enforcement against the fake products dealers using security agencies to ensure that such unwholesome acts are stopped.

Kanu also disclosed that all illegal traders messing up Umuahia town would be relocated to the Okwulaga Afara relief market as compensation has been paid to the land owners while construction has commenced in the proposed relief market.
