Nigeria’s electricity generation hits new peak of 5,543.20 MW – TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has said the country’s electricity generation attained a new peak of 5,543.20 megawatts as of Friday, 14th February, 2025.

TCN made this known in a statement to Media Talk Africa on Wednesday.

The new peak represents an increase from 5,478.73 MW recorded on Thursday, 13 February 2025.

“This surpasses the previous peak of 5,478.73 MW recorded on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

“Notably, the new Maximum Daily Energy of 125,159.48 MWH is the highest ever recorded in the nation’s electricity industry, exceeding the previous record of 121,674.88 MWH on February 7, 2025, by 3,484.60 MWH.

“TCN successfully transmitted the new peak generation and maximum daily energy to the distribution companies’ load centres nationwide for onward distribution to their customers,” the company stated.

Meanwhile, despite the feat celebrated by TCN, Nigeria’s power sector had continued to grapple with challenges of inadequate electricity supply, infrastructural deficit, debts, among others.
