PDP disowns purported commission of office in Benue

The Benue State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dissociated itself from the alleged commissioning of a new party secretariat in Lessel, Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State.

In a statement signed by the Zonal Chairman, Zone “A”, Hon. Abraham Waroh, the party maintained that the commissioning of the office was illegal.

“It has come to our attention that Mr. Dan Boor has claimed to be the Chairman of the PDP in Ushongo Local Government, a position that is officially held by Hon. Gaav Tsua.

“This recognition is acknowledged by the PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and all relevant security agencies.”

The statement further clarified that the PDP did not commission any new office in Lessel on the specified date. Instead, the only legitimate event conducted by the party was the inauguration of ward executives from the eleven council wards of Ushongo Local Government, who were elected during the party’s ward congresses on July 27, 2024.

Additionally, it stated that the local government executives were elected during congresses on September 21, 2024, but were not inaugurated alongside the local government party chairmen at the State Congress on October 3, 2024, which took place at Sese Event Centre in Makurdi.

“This inauguration was conducted under the supervision of INEC and security agencies.”

The PDP further stated that, as a law-abiding party, it has instructed its legal representatives to report Mr. Boor’s actions to the appropriate security agencies.

“He has been engaging in deceptive practices and misleading the public by impersonating the Ushongo Local Government Chairman of the PDP.”

The party also disclosed that during the purported commissioning of the office in Lessel, former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, was represented by Hon. Alfred Orya Atera.

The PDP urged Senator Suswam, as a distinguished party member, to refrain from supporting any action that undermines the party’s integrity and long-standing reputation.

The statement concluded by calling on the public to disregard any misleading reports about the commissioning of a PDP office in Lessel and warned that anyone engaging with Mr. Dan Boor, who falsely claims to be the Ushongo PDP Chairman, does so at their own risk.
