Court halts Zamfara assembly’s move to remove APC lawmaker

The Federal High Court in Gusau has halted the Zamfara State House of Assembly from removing Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara, the APC lawmaker representing Talata Mafara South Constituency.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Monday by the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, Yusuf Idris Gusau.

According to him, the ruling came after Kagara filed a lawsuit (No. FHC/GSCS/10/2025) against the state Assembly, its Speaker, and INEC, challenging his removal from office.

Presiding over the case, Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim granted an interim injunction restraining INEC from conducting a bye-election for the vacant seat.

The court also ordered that the status quo be maintained until further proceedings.

The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2025.

Meanwhile, the state Assembly has suspended nine lawmakers from various parties, reducing its membership below the two-thirds majority required to pass bills.
