Disengaged school teachers fault former Gov Elrufai for non payment of benefits

Disengaged primary school teachers under Nasir El-Rufai’s administration have faulted the regime for non-payment of their terminal benefits.

Media Talk Africa recalls that the Governor Elrufai-led government had in 2017, sacked 21,000 out of 30,000 primary school teachers who failed their competency test.

Following the non-payment of their terminal benefits, the disengaged staff, called, “Kaduna State Illegally Disengaged Teachers Forum”, KSIDF, rained curses on former Governor Nasir Elrufai for failing to pay their entitlement after they were fired.

“It is unfair to treat teachers, who contributed their quota to educational development in the state in such a heartless manner.

In a press statement issued at Arewa House after their meeting, the State Coordinator of KSIDF, Aminu Maitama, said the competency test was not done in good faith as presented to the public but to reduce the number of teachers employed by the state government.

According to the statement, disengaged primary school teachers scored 70 percent pass mark, yet, before they were disengaged.

He said, “I think what Elrufai did was to sack the teachers to reduce the cost of salary payments without recourse to the standard of teaching and education in the State.

The statement called on Governor Uba Sani to consider their plights and revisit the issue of the 21,000 sacked teachers, adding that they believe Governor Uba Sani would sympathize with them and do what is needed.
