U-20 AFCON: I want to build solid team — Flying Eagles coach, Zubairu

Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubairu, says his main focus is to build a solid team that can win the title at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

The nine-time African champions defeated Cote d’Ivoire 2-0 in a friendly in Abidjan on Wednesday.

It was the Flying Eagles first real test since they defeated Ghana in the final of the WAFU B Championship last year.

Reflecting on the win against Cote d’Ivoire, Zubairu said it is important for him to know the level of his team heading into the U-20 AFCON.

“My reaction to today’s game wouldn’t be that important as it is at this level in as much as much as we are still in a building process,” he told reporters after the game.

“We came here for the friendly match to be able to know the level at which some of the old players that went to WAFU-B are and the new ones that want to join us.”

The Flying Eagles will take on Cote d’Ivoire in another friendly on Friday.
