Trump alerts American farmers on looming tariff

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the country would impose tariffs on “external” agricultural products, effective from 2nd April.

Trump’s latest threat to introduce trade barriers on imported goods was made in a post on his official Truth Social account.

While alerting American farmers about the impending tariffs, he urged them to prepare to sell their produce domestically.

He wrote: “To the Great Farmers of the United States: Get ready to start making a lot of agricultural product to be sold INSIDE of the United States. Tariffs will go on an external product on April 2nd. Have fun!”

Last Tuesday, Trump announced that the U.S. would impose a 25 per cent tariff on Canada and Mexico, along with an additional 10 per cent tariff on China, in addition to the 10 per cent tariff already imposed on China last month.
